Fake websites

The internet is a great source of information, you can find pretty much anything online in the modern day, but the internet does have drawbacks, fake sites and hoax sites are common on the internet, these could be sites that have misleading information, or sites that try and get your personal information by trying to act like a real site, e.g. a fake Facebook site which asks you for your username and passwords are common.
The reason so many of these sites exist is due to a few reasons, firstly the internet is free for anyone to use, there's no real restrictions to what anyone can publish on the internet, anyone in any country can put fake sites up. People can benefit from these websites greatly, they can put scams on them to get money from the people who enter the website, these scams could be ones that prompt you that you've won money, as they are the most common on the internet. Although the fake websites I'm describing sound like their only purpose is for malicious intent, many fake websites are put up just for the fun of it, fake websites such as thedogisland.com
The website is a joke, stating that you can free your dog by sending it to this island, it even makes up statistics in order to keep it looking authentic.

Thewhitehouse.net: This website attempts to trick people into thinking this is the official white house website, the site is easily seen as a fake because its' clearly outdated, it still says that George Bush is the president. It could be that this site was intended to be a joke, although there's a chance that the creator wanted to use it to gain personal information by getting people to sign up and use their passwords on the site, although this seems unlikely due to the nature of the information given on the site.

Weareelectricals.com: At first look this would seem to be a normal site selling different kinds of electrical products, the site looks real, but in fact it's just a scam, they offer cheap prices for their goods, but not too cheap to seem less obvious, and when you order something, they simply will take your money and send you nothing. I have come across this website many times when shopping online, I was lucky and saw that it was a scam before I bought anything from there, but just because a site looks real, doesn't mean it is real.

Fake websites have become a real problem for people, especially those who do online shopping, but these websites are easily avoided by being careful, always check the url bar when you are on a log in page to see if the site is the legitimate site you want to be on and not just some scam, and when shopping online, always check reviews of websites before you buy anything from them, this will make sure that you do not buy from a fake website and potentially lose a lot of money.
